The Problem
Women—including white women and women of color such as Black, Latina, and Indigenous women—often earn as little as 60% of what white men earn for comparable work, limiting their ability to obtain health insurance and essential health care services for themselves and their children.
Insurance coverage gaps, language barriers, and mistrust of health systems lead to delayed or foregone care for many women of color, leading to higher mortality.
Perceived unfairness erodes trust in institutions, which can fuel social unrest and diminish civic participation. This leads to much lower political participation to improve their own conditions.
Children are affected the most when growing in impacted households, leading to a generation that is even more difficult to improve.
